See the person. Understand the story.
For the past few years, epilepsy has been a part of my little sister Sophie's life. At just 12 years old, she's already experienced challenges that many people will never fully understand.
For years, Sophie primarily experienced absence seizures. These seizures don't always look like what most people picture when they hear the word "seizure." Sometimes, they can look like someone is simply staring off or zoning out for a few seconds.
Recently, however, everything changed.
Sophie experienced her first convulsive seizure, and it was one of the scariest moments our family has experienced. What we once thought we understood about her epilepsy suddenly felt so uncertain. We found ourselves facing new questions, fears, and worries about what her future might look like.
Through this experience, I've realized something important: so many people don't truly understand epilepsy.
Epilepsy isn't always what you see portrayed on television. There are different types of seizures, different challenges, and different experiences for every person living with it.
And behind every diagnosis is a person with a story worth understanding.
That's why I created More Than a Seizure ? Sophie's Story.
This November, in honor of Epilepsy Awareness Month, we're selling T-shirts to raise awareness, encourage conversations, and support individuals and families affected by epilepsy.
While Sophie is the inspiration behind this fundraiser, our mission extends far beyond her. We want to advocate for everyone navigating the uncertainty, challenges, and everyday realities of living with epilepsy.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to Epilepsy Foundation Texas, an organization dedicated to supporting people and families affected by epilepsy.
Whether you purchase a shirt, share this fundraiser, or simply take a moment to learn something new about epilepsy, you're helping us make a difference.
Because Sophie is more than her seizures. And so is every other person living with epilepsy.
See the person. Understand the story. ?
Thank you for supporting Sophie, our family, and the epilepsy community. Your kindness means more than you know.
