I digitally painted this design with inspiration from Aileen Wuornos's prison photos and her quote. I also drew inspiration from Catholic art, in which martyrs are depicted with reverie without regard for all they've done in life. It all hinges on one moment in their lives. The shirt is meant to be tongue in cheek and intended to inspire introspection around the topics of her crimes. One thing is for sure, Aileen Wuornos will likely be the only serial killer I'd put on a shirt. One of the few has caused me to pause to think about society's pressures on women and how we expect them to endure the worst.
Was Wuornos a monster? Was she acting in self-defense? Did she start out with self-defense and then spiral? Did society fail her? You decide.
Transparency: I only profit about 7.00 and some change off the sale of each shirt. That money will go to coffee, Gunter's medication (Border collie), or right back into my true-crime advocacy somehow. I'm not the best artist and only just recently got into digital art. Thank you for all your continued support!
