Food insecurity is rampant in Guatemala, leading to high levels of malnutrition. A hungry kid can't learn, and a hungry elder suffers from additional health issues when nutritional needs aren't being met. Guatemala Service Projects has improved this situation through the building of clinics, distribution of multivitamins and more. For this holiday season, we're providing food baskets to the families of GSP students and elders in the communities we serve.
A food basket provides food security for the holidays
Throughout the month of November, GSP's fundraising efforts are focused on food baskets to will be delivered the week before Christmas. The goal is 100 baskets, at a cost of $40 per basket. Each basket will supply an average family with two full weeks of food, with some variance due to family size. The basket contains staple foods as well as a holiday treat.
The baskets will be directed to the family of each student in our scholarship program, to each individual in our entrepreneurship program, each helper in Guatemala responsible for assisting us with projects, and the many elderly people in need of food in Chichicastenango.
